The blurry camera pic below shows part of a 140v power MOSFET IC I designed. But the view directly though the eyepiece exhibits remarkable clarity and detail, even on the lowest magnification objective. But, using my really cheap digital camera, I was able to "sort of" get a through-the-lens picture of part of an integrated circuit (IC) I designed. I don't have an appropriate camera to bring the view to a focus. The field looks so sharp you almost feel like you can see individual atoms! I've seen some pretty decent scopes in my day (when I was designing ICs) but this one just has incredibly sharp optics. When looking at a dime, even on the lowest mag objective, you can't even read any letters. But I have been able to look at a few simple things like a coin or an integrated circuit just by pointing an LED flashlight down on the subject from above. The light source in the back (which was intended for through-a-glass-slide ilumination) is entirely missing. Most of this microscope seems to work remarkably well. I almost feel guilty about that, but I could tell that she really wanted to set aside old memories. I asked how much she wanted for it and she sold it to me for $15. She told me that her husband had been the director of a large clinical laboratory and he had brought this home to work with. Sitting there on the floor of her garage was this amazing microscope, but very VERY dirty. The older lady who lived there had recently lost her husband and she was trying to get rid of some of his old books and stuff. We noticed a small "garage sale" sign on an old house and decided to stop. One weekend in the early 90's my wife and I were driving in the outer suburbs of Boston (near Concord if I recall).
